Breathe

In Zuni tradition, breath represents the living spirit in all things.

When requesting help from an animal fetish, there must be an “exchange of breath” in order to achieve the necessary connection.

The fetish owner holds the fetish close to their lips, and breathes gently over the fetish. This is followed by a long, deep in-breath, in order to absorb the spirit of the fetish.

This exercise can be particularly profound, and for those sensitive to subtle energies the initial connection with a newly acquired fetish can be an incredibly emotional experience.

About Running Elk

My given native name, Running Elk, was bestowed in 2008 as I took my first steps as a fully fledged Medicine Man of the Zuni tradition. A most unlikely candidate for the role, my journey as a healer began some four years prior. The detour onto the shamanic way was most unexpected, yet has been one of the most rewarding challenges to date.
