To the Zuni, all things are the same: the substance of everything is identical.
This caused much confusion for early linguistic anthropologists, who found that a single word often sufficed for several, very different phenomena.
Beyond this very basic observation, however, there are 5 things considered essential for the comfort and sustenance of the “red people”:
The sun: the Father of all.
The earth: the Mother of men.
The water: the Grandfather.
The fire: the Grandmother.
The corn: the brother and sister of the “red people”, and the seed of all living things.
