‘Witchcraft is not a religion’, ‘Witches are not Pagans’…Anyone who has read even just a few books on traditional Witchcraft or hung around a few message boards long enough will have heard one or more of these sorts of things…very few people however really explain what they mean, certainly not in terms which most of us can understand. With many of us arriving at the gates of Traditional Craft having had quite a chequered spiritual past, sometimes it’s hard for folks like me to really grasp what people mean when they make these massive sweeping statements. But recently I have started to get it…and sometimes we need to look backwards to really understand where we are heading and how far along the path of understanding we have travelled.

About Running Elk

My given native name, Running Elk, was bestowed in 2008 as I took my first steps as a fully fledged Medicine Man of the Zuni tradition. A most unlikely candidate for the role, my journey as a healer began some four years prior. The detour onto the shamanic way was most unexpected, yet has been one of the most rewarding challenges to date.

    Thanks for sharing that – this comes the closest to how I feel about finding God … God is not a being, God is a force I envision as pure Light and I prefer to call it ANYThing but God. It is found in every leaf and cloud, every raindrop and bolt of lightning, every breeze, every star … every atom of you & me.
    And we ARE all the same. Many of us are just too lost in our own self importance to realize we merely walk different paths up the same mountain.
